Grants Unlock $225K for Vic Dairy Innovation
A future focus for dairy projects.

Key funding targets adaptation, workforce, and climate impacts in Australia’s vital dairy regions.

The Australian dairy sector is set to receive a significant boost with the launch of a new funding stream focused on adaptation and community transition. The Gardiner Foundation’s inaugural Community Investment Grants program is designed to inject $225,000 into local innovation across Victoria’s key dairy regions, positioning the industry for a more robust and sustainable future amid continuous change. This financial support targets projects crucial to maintaining the vibrancy of dairy-dependent communities.

This multi-year program will distribute funding across three distinct Victorian dairy regions—Gippsland, northern Victoria, and south-west Victoria—with each area receiving up to $75,000 over a three-year span (or $25,000 annually). The collaborative effort is delivered in partnership with the Australian Communities Foundation and represents a strategic investment in development led by local insights, which is essential for effective regional transformation.

The grant initiative has a broad but defined focus, specifically looking to support projects addressing major industry challenges. Eligible initiatives include those focusing on land usage change, farm aggregation and succession, critical workforce issues (including culture and longevity), climate impact mitigation, and building and improving essential social infrastructure. The goal is to fund tangible solutions that ensure dairy regions remain economically and socially active.

Funding is highly versatile, available for a range of activities essential for community and industry growth. This includes, but is not limited to, seed projects, service delivery, the development of regional data metrics for community planning, coaching and program support, events, workshops, training and education initiatives, and the procurement of essential equipment. This flexibility allows for a tailored approach to local needs.

Non-profit organizations and social enterprises are eligible to apply, provided they service Victorian communities where the dairy industry forms the primary economic and social foundation. According to Gardiner Foundation CEO Allan Cameron, the program aims to back local leadership, transforming and strengthening the regions for a “strong, sustainable and vibrant” future. Expressions of Interest are currently open and set to close at 5 pm on Thursday, October 16, with recipients slated for announcement later in the year.
