June Cheese Output Up 4.2%

US cheese production increased 4.2% YOY in June according to the USDA, on an estimated 4.2% rise in manufacturing milk availability.

American cheese output rose 4.8% YOY for the month on a weak comparable, with an 8.3% increase for cheddar, while “other cheese” varieties (including mozzarella) increased 3.8% YOY.

Combined NFDM and SMP output declined 1.4% YOY in June, with SMP down 21.7% YOY while NFDM rose 9.6% YOY. Butter production rose 10.4% YOY in June, increasing every month since November 2023.

Dry whey output increased 0.7% YOY for the month, with a 4.8% YOY increase in WPC. WPC 50-89.9% output increased 4.1% YOY, while WPC 25-49.9% production rose 6.5% YOY. WPI production continued to surge, up 11.1% in June, but with a 10.2% YOY decline in MPC.
