ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Local farmers are calling it a big win for the dairy industry as Governor Hogan pledged to contribute around $1.5 million in state funds.
Local dairy farmer, Chuck Fry, said the past four years have been tough for the industry. Fry said that many farmers are losing their property because of the low milk prices. The assistance comes after the government passed the farm bill that left out dairy farmers. The state funds will allow farmers to be a part of a new federal funding program. The program will create up to $17 million to help those in the agriculture community.
“Even though it is a small token, I think it is an appreciation the fact Governor Hogan does care about what his base is and agriculture community,” Fry said.
Fry is also the President for the Maryland Farm Bureau.
