In total, the balance of our foreign trade for animal products reached 1.78 billion euros in 2022. This is 47% less than in 2021. Dairy products are our export flagship, but our imports (many fats) have become more expensive than our exports, leading to a deterioration in our trade surplus.

France also has a surplus in the beef sector, but here again our balance has widened, between a fall in supply and therefore exports and an upsurge in demand from the RHD for imported meat.

In pork, after two positive years thanks to trade with China, our balance has become negative again in value and has deteriorated sharply in volume.

Our chicken imports continue to progress, exceeding their pre-Covid level and those of duck have increased significantly in value in the context of avian flu, an epizootic which has also contributed to degrading our trade surplus in eggs and egg products.
