ATTENTION to detail on-farm is one of the keys to achieving top milk quality.
AWARDED: The Milk Quality Awards recognise the nation’s top 100 farms for milk quality as well as those farms in the top 5 per cent.

This year’s winners of Dairy Australia’s Milk Quality Awards, recognising outstanding milk quality based on bulk milk cell count, were announced this week.
The awards recognise the nation’s top 100 farms for milk quality as well as those farms in the top 5 per cent.
Dairy Australia technical and innovation manager John Penry said the average national bulk milk cell count was 188,000 cells/ml, while those in the top 5 per cent had an average bulk milk cell count of less than 90,000 cells/ml. Dr Penry said that put farms in the top 5 per cent “well and truly below the threshold” stated by processors for premium milk quality.
He said farmers who paid attention to detail and specifically had all people on the farm carrying out best practice management was something that stood out in the award winners this year.
“In the top 5 per cent group, there were 223 farms from all regions of Australia, so it demonstrates … irrespective of where you farm or the kind of farming system you have, the ability to have quality milk is there,” Dr Penry said.
