NC dairy farmer, recovering from accident, receives outpouring of love from friends, neighbors, and strangers

Randy Lewis is a fifth-generation dairy farmer in Snow Camp, North Carolina. One of the last dairy farmers in the county, according to his milk plant operator.

Earlier this month, Lewis was attacked by a bull in his pasture and suffered multiple injuries: broken ribs, punctured lungs, and multiple broken bones. He was life-flighted to UNC Hospital.

Workers at Ran-Lew Dairy took to the internet for help and created a GoFundMe to help with the medical costs and to help keep the dairy going.
They set the goal at $115,000 dollars. However, the giving nature of friends, neighbors, and humans shined bright and blew past that amount. As of Thursday, May 11th the current balance is more than $144,000 dollars.

Besides being a farmer, Lewis was also the subject of a documentary that spotlighted the struggles of farming and his family’s 50-year-old tradition— barn dances!

While his road to recovery will be long, everyone is optimistic and ready to take Lewis home.
“We are looking forward to a celebration when Randy is back on his feet. Although a barn dance may not be in the cards for a while, this will be an opportunity to gather in person, share a meal, and tell our favorite Randy stories. Your donation is your ticket to celebrate with Randy and helps to strengthen the future of the farm through this challenging time,”

The number of dairy producers across Britain stood at an estimated 7,200 in October 2024, according to figures released by the AHDB.
