The lobby group is urging political parties to move beyond verbal endorsement and commit to concrete policy measures supporting the nation’s organic agriculture and food sector.

The OANZ manifesto outlines critical priorities for the industry, including the continuation of an organics associate minister, the formal rollout of the National Organic Standard, targeted investment in sector growth, international market access and equivalency, and robust protection for GE-free and organic certification statuses during agricultural transitions.

The Opportunity Party (TOP) expressed strong alignment with the manifesto’s goals through its Healthy Land and Healthy People framework. Deputy leader Daniel Eb stated that TOP opposes the current Gene Technology Bill, calling for its withdrawal so a properly structured process can be established next term to safeguard organic certification rules and support resilient land use.

The Green Party signaled positive support for the manifesto, while Labour Party agriculture spokesperson Jo Luxton confirmed broad backing for the National Organic Standard rollout, sector investment, and export market access. However, while supporting organic integrity, Luxton noted that Labour also backs gene technology to address major challenges, provided any framework balances international market opportunities with protecting trusted production systems.
