The Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center (NE-DBIC) is unveiling a new grant made possible through funding from the USDA’s Commodity Credit Corporation.
The Organic Dairy Product Promotion (ODPP) Grant is designed to increase organic dairy in schools, child-care centers, and other youth-based programs.
This unique opportunity is part of a national initiative to increase the consumption of organic dairy among children and young adults while supporting small and mid-sized organic dairy producers. Funded projects will address one of the following areas:
- Expansion of current organic dairy procurement: Existing sourcing of organic dairy products will be supplemented with additional regionally produced organic dairy products.
- Addition of organic dairy products: Institutions that do not currently serve organic dairy products will begin to source and serve regionally produced organic dairy.
Eligible applicants include licensed dairy processors, distributors who primarily serve wholesale and/or institutional buyers, and youth institutions including K-12 schools, colleges, center-based pre-kindergarten/Head Start programs, and summer feeding programs that are currently eligible to participate in federal child nutrition programs.
Grants will range from $50,000 – $500,000 with no match requirement. $1,750,000 is available this round. This is the first of two times that this grant will be offered.
The Cover Crop Variety Testing Network is seeking farmers to join its team as citizen scientists this fall. Partnering farmers will receive cover crop seed to grow variety trials in their own fields. By monitoring trials throughout the season, producers will help identify which varieties perform best across different regions, management practices, and farming systems.
Space is limited. Sign up by June 15th.
