Processor commits 400,000 annual cheese slices to non-profit Eat Up as demand for school lunch programs surges nationwide.

Saputo Dairy Australia (SDA) has announced a significant expansion of its national corporate social responsibility partnership with Australian non-profit organization Eat Up. Under the formal in-kind agreement, the major dairy processor will donate more than 400,000 slices of its CHEER Tasty Cheese brand annually to support free school lunch deliveries across the country. The initiative aims to alleviate food insecurity among primary and secondary students, ensuring vulnerable children have consistent access to essential dairy nutrition during school hours.

The partnership comes at a critical juncture for educational institutions across Australia, as elevated living costs continue to pressure household budgets. Eat Up currently provides nutritional support to over 1,200 primary and secondary schools nationwide, delivering thousands of freshly made lunches directly to students each week. According to organizational surveys, 68 percent of participating Australian schools reported a year-on-year increase in students requiring subsidized meal support, highlighting expanding demand for institutional food relief programs.

The multi-year commitment builds upon an established operational relationship between the processor and the non-profit platform. Since 2024, more than 350 Saputo Dairy Australia employees across various manufacturing and administrative facilities have volunteered in corporate sandwich-making sessions, producing over 18,000 cheese sandwiches using donated company products. Formalizing the annual volume commitment provides Eat Up with a predictable ingredient supply chain, allowing the charity to scale distribution without incurring raw material cost inflation.

From an ESG and corporate strategy perspective, the partnership aligns commercial dairy processing with community-level nutrition advocacy. Executives at Saputo highlighted that supplying pre-portioned cheese slices provides a functional, nutrient-dense protein source that enhances student concentration and classroom engagement. Utilizing established consumer brands like CHEER for social programs also reinforces brand visibility and corporate goodwill across regional milk sheds and urban consumer markets.

The initiative illustrates how strategic corporate partnerships can strengthen non-profit food distribution networks without adding operational overhead to charitable supply chains. As Australian educational institutions navigate rising student welfare demands, steady ingredient contributions from commercial processors remain vital to sustaining school lunch programs at scale. By integrating employee volunteerism with direct product donations, major dairy processors continue to play an active role in supporting community resilience and child nutrition.
