
Alexis de Portneuf La Sauvagine by Saputo Dairy Products Canada was awarded Best Canadian Cheese at the World Cheese Awards held 27-28 October at the Trondheim Spektrum, Norway.
Organized by the Guild of Fine Food, the World Cheese Awards is the world’s largest cheese-only event of its kind and saw 4,502 cheeses from 43 countries across the globe go head-to-head to be crowned the cream of the crop.
Alexis de Portneuf La Sauvagine is a soft, mould-ripened pasteurized cows’ milk cheese with a supple rind, made with animal rennet and matured for 2 to 6 weeks.
Another Canadian company that did particularly well was Fromages CDA, which was awarded Super Golds for its Mascotte and Magie de Madawaska cheeses. In total, Canada was awarded three Super Gold, six Gold, 10 Silver and 13 Bronze awards.
