Dozens of people were reportedly informed they will be losing their jobs in Colorado Springs.

On Thursday, multiple people reached out to 11 News claiming Sinton Dairy Foods Company would be closing in the coming months. Those viewers, who wanted to remain anonymous, tell us this will impact about 60 to 70 people.

11 News confirmed through Promised Land Dairy the Sinton Dairy Foods Company in Colorado Springs is expected to end operations on Dec. 30.

“We understand that this decision is difficult for our Colorado Springs employees, some of whom have been with us for many years,” part of a statement sent to 11 News from Promised Land reads. “We are dedicated to supporting those affected and will offer eligible employees severance benefits, a retention bonus, and resources from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment as part of our commitment to them.”

The company is expected to shift the production of Promised Land Dairy products to a new facility in West Virginia.

“This important change will allow Promised Land to meet our loyal customers’ and consumers’ needs and expectations and to bring our extraordinary Promised Land Dairy products to new markets,” part of the statement adds. “Promised Land milk will continue to be produced with Jersey Cow milk and retain its distinctive rich and creamy flavor.”

According to the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum The Dairy Farmers of America cooperative and Sinton’s management bought Sinton after Associated Grocers filed for bankruptcy in 1987, then in 2009 the firm was acquired in by the Mexican conglomerate Lala. As part of the shift to producing ultra-pasteurized milk with a long shelf life, Lala replaced the Sinton name with Promised Land Dairy in 2016.

Sinton Road in Colorado Springs was named in honor of Melvin Sinton who started Sinton Dairy in 1880, according to the museum.
