Des Moines, Iowa — Highly pathogenic avian influenza has now been detected in six northwest Iowa Dairy operations.

Des Moines, Iowa — Highly pathogenic avian influenza has now been detected in six northwest Iowa Dairy operations. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says the virus has been detected in a dairy herd in O’Brien County, one in Plymouth County, and four in Sioux County.

Ag officials are strongly encouraging poultry producers and dairy farmers to bolster their biosecurity practices and protocols. Officials say there is no concern about the safety of pasteurized milk or dairy products, and the risk of getting bird flu through eggs is also low, due to safety protocols in place. They add any threat to the general public remains low.
