One lucky cow will soon be named the happiest in Wisconsin.
Organic Valley’s Happy Cow Showdown celebrates the positive impact of organic farming on cows, the milk they produce, and the environment around them.
Sabrina Servais of Servais-Hamburg Hills Farm in Stoddard was thrilled to learn one of her cows was chosen for this year’s showdown.
“It’s exciting to be selected for the happy cow contest. We have a lot of great cows here and we love them all very much, so for one of our special pets to get picked was super exciting for us,” says Servais.
Servais says Hazel is a 4-year-old brown jersey cow, who is upbeat with a bit of a sassy side. She adds Hazel’s happy place is on the cow brush.
As part of the competition, Organic Valley will plant 1,000 trees on family farms to create happier habitats for cows. Servais says it is great to have a cooperative who cares for local farms.
“It’s so important to us to be able to be involved with a local cooperative that does it’s best to take care of it’s farmers and is led by the farmers. They have so many great opportunities for people like me to get involved, have our voices heard, and show what we’re trying to do on our family farms,” says Servais.
As for the competition, Servais hopes Hazel will come out the winner.
“She’s a spunky cow with a lot of attitude, so I would love it for her and for my family. We would be super excited just to be able to have the recognition from one of our animals, and for people to know that we really care about all of our cows here and making sure that they’re happy and they are living their best life,” says Servais.
