They say bringing back the program, which saw school kids given free milk in the 1950’s and 60’s, would be good for kids’ health, and the health of the industry.

United Dairyfarmers of Victoria president Paul Mumford told Sunrise that the rollout of a government-funded milk program across all primary schools could help turn the tide for struggling farmers, who are battling high costs, drought and the rise of alternative ‘milk’ products.
He also believes that it would boost the health of Aussie school kids, with, fewer than 10 per cent of nine to 18-year-olds currently meeting the recommended dairy requirements.
Milk is known to be a great source of nutrients, including protein, iodine, vitamin A, vitamin D, riboflavin, vitamin B12 and zinc.
