Student Power UW-Madison Senior Joins National Dairy Shrine Board

Lauren Breunig, the fourth student ever elected, joins new leadership and fellow industry professionals on the National Dairy Shrine Board of Directors, bringing a youth perspective to the premier dairy organization.

The National Dairy Shrine appointed two new board members and welcomed new leadership during its recent annual meeting, injecting fresh perspectives into the organization’s governance. Most notably, Lauren Breunig, a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison), was elected to the Board of Directors. Hailing from her family’s dairy farm in Sauk City, Wisconsin, Breunig represents a vital link between the next generation of industry professionals and seasoned leadership.

Breunig is currently majoring in Life Sciences Communication at UW-Madison, showcasing a background rooted in both agriculture and strategic outreach. Her active involvement in campus organizations like the Badger Dairy Club, the Association for Women in Agriculture, the National Agri-Marketing Association, and the Collegiate Farm Bureau demonstrates her commitment to the dairy sector’s future. Her election is historic, making her only the fourth student to ever serve as a director on the National Dairy Shrine Board.

The organization’s leadership transition saw Jodi Hoynoski of Gill, Massachusetts, named as the President for 2026. Hoynoski brings over 20 years of experience from her career at Holstein Association USA, the world’s largest dairy breed organization. She currently holds the titles of Strategic Projects Manager for Holstein Association USA and Programs Director for the Holstein Foundation, providing extensive expertise in breed management and development.

In further leadership changes, Jason Johnson of Northwood, New Hampshire, was selected as the President-Elect. Johnson’s career is marked by two decades of managing dairy operations across the United States and Canada before he moved into the processor/producer relations segment. He currently serves as the Director of Farm Relationship and Procurement for Lactalis USA and is also a director of the American Jersey Cattle Association, highlighting his diverse experience across the supply chain.

Another new director joining the board is Sarah Thomas, a North Carolina native who now resides in Ohio. Thomas currently works as a Product Support Analyst at Select Sires, Inc., where her technical expertise is focused on supporting the company’s mating software program, Select Mating Service (SMS). The addition of these directors, spanning genetics, processing, association management, and student engagement, reinforces the National Dairy Shrine’s mission to support and honor the dairy industry’s various facets.
