A report by the Tasmanian Dairy Industry Authority found the vast majority of Van Dairies farms failed to meet the effluent code and raised serious concerns about management and animal welfare.

Van Dairy says its undertaking remedial action to fix the effluent issues and rejected claims it was mistreating animals.

In the mean time, the Circular Head community is left to deal with the fallout of another negative story about its dairy industry.

Mayor Daryl Quilliam spoke to Lachlan Bennett about what it meant for other farmers in the district.

The price for the butter so essential to the pastries has shot up in recent months, by 25% since September alone, Delmontel says.
