Schulz Organic Dairy at Timboon, Vic, recently started glass bottling its milk with fantastic results.
ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS: Schulz Organic Dairy's principal Simon Schulz said the business' glass bottles have proved to be successful with their consumers.

Glass bottles were brought into the environmentally-conscious business just before Easter.
While Schulz Organic Dairy principal Simon Schulz admits it’s too early to tell how successful glass bottling has been for the business, he is pleased with the initiative.
“People love the glass bottle, we can’t keep up with the demand,” he said.
“Being an organic producer and in an environmentally sustainable space allowed us to have the right connections and good base to be a source and implement glass bottles
“I think it has brought in some new customers and it has certainly shown us people’s desire for sustainable packaging.
“This isn’t an area we’ve ventured into before so we’re learning on the job but enjoying the challenge.”

In July last year the dairy producer began a crowdfunding campaign to turn their packaging into the environmentally sustainable option of glass.
At the time, Mr Schulz estimated that by using glass bottles it could prevent 30 tonnes of plastic ending up in landfill every year.
The dairy estimated they’d be able to produce about 5000 glass bottles of milk a week with the $106,000 amount raised by the campaign.
“The crowdfunding campaign was certainly successful in getting this product out there and it’s only the beginning,” Mr Schulz said.
“We hope in time we might have conversations with other retailers to show glass and biodegradable packaging is where we should be heading.”
