The U.S. dairy industry is already seeing the benefits of the trade deal with Japan.

Jaime Castaneda with the U.S. Dairy Export Council says with the lowering of tariffs as part of the bilateral agreement, exports of U.S. cheese and other products have increased.

He says while the sales are great, the fact that the U.S. is now on a level playing field with Australia, New Zealand and the European Union is a major relief.

Castaneda points out Japanese tariffs on U.S. cheddar have fallen around four percent since the trade deal went into effect January first.

Saputo’s newly-appointed chief operations officer Frank Guido is to step down for unstated personal reasons, the dairy giant has announced.
