The U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) are mobilizing to counteract proposed Colombian tariffs on U.S. milk-powder exports.

In a concerted effort, they have requested the U.S. government to deploy all necessary measures to prevent these tariffs, which they view as unfounded and detrimental to the bilateral trade relationship established under the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement.

The dairy councils have praised the efforts of U.S. congressional representatives who have addressed a letter to the Colombian Ambassador, emphasizing the need for cooperative policies rather than confrontational trade investigations.

This response comes after Colombia initiated a Subsidies and Countervailing Measures investigation, which USDEC and NMPF argue is baseless and lacks any substantial evidence linking U.S. exports to any harm in the Colombian market.

Leaders like Krysta Harden of USDEC and Gregg Doud of NMPF have stressed the success of the free trade agreement and warned that such unilateral measures could undermine decades of progress in trade relations between the two nations. They have expressed gratitude towards the U.S. interagency team for their diligence in addressing the issue and vow to continue collaboration to ensure fair market access for American dairy products.

This proactive stance by U.S. dairy leaders highlights their commitment to protecting the interests of American dairy producers and ensuring that international trade policies remain fair and conducive to mutual growth.
