The U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) are mobilizing to counteract proposed Colombian tariffs on U.S. milk-powder exports.

In a concerted effort, they have requested the U.S. government to deploy all necessary measures to prevent these tariffs, which they view as unfounded and detrimental to the bilateral trade relationship established under the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement.

The dairy councils have praised the efforts of U.S. congressional representatives who have addressed a letter to the Colombian Ambassador, emphasizing the need for cooperative policies rather than confrontational trade investigations.

This response comes after Colombia initiated a Subsidies and Countervailing Measures investigation, which USDEC and NMPF argue is baseless and lacks any substantial evidence linking U.S. exports to any harm in the Colombian market.

This proactive stance by U.S. dairy leaders highlights their commitment to protecting the interests of American dairy producers and ensuring that international trade policies remain fair and conducive to mutual growth.
