Sedron Technologies secures major backing to expand dairy manure and sewage treatment projects across the U.S.

Washington-based wastewater company Sedron Technologies has secured up to $500 million from global investment firm Ara Partners to accelerate the rollout of facilities that process municipal sewage and dairy manure. The investment gives Ara a controlling stake in the business and is intended to help Sedron scale new projects nationwide.

Sedron specializes in financing, designing, building and operating plants that convert waste streams into marketable products. Its facilities, which cost between $100 million and $200 million each, generate revenue not only from municipalities and dairy farms paying for waste treatment, but also from the sale of renewable energy and organic fertilizers produced on site.

The company’s dairy business focuses on manure management, one of the largest expenses for milk producers. Sedron separates water from manure for irrigation use and transforms the remaining material into two fertilizer products: a solid amendment and a concentrated liquid nitrogen fertilizer. Those products are then marketed nationwide for crops including apples, berries and spinach. The process is designed to replace traditional manure lagoons, which can release methane and increase the risk of water contamination.

Sedron has already deployed manure treatment systems at two dairy farms in Indiana, including one handling waste from 20,000 cows, and plans to begin operations at a Wisconsin dairy this summer. The company is also breaking ground on a regional wastewater treatment project in South Florida that will serve communities with a combined population of 2 million people by 2028.

Originally launched in 2014 as a spinoff from Janicki Industries, Sedron traces its roots to research supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The company now employs 275 people and aims to launch at least two new treatment sites annually over the next five years, positioning itself as a leading player in circular waste management for the dairy and municipal sectors.
