Women cheesemakers play important role in Wisconsin's dairy industry
Angie Edge from Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin tells us about the role of women in cheesemaking.

Wisconsin is known as America’s Dairyland, and women play a huge role in the world-class dairy industry.

Angie Edge from Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin joined 27 News to talk about some of the women cheesemakers in our state.

In 1841, Anne Pickett used milk from a neighbor’s cows to make cheese in Lake Mills and founded the first cheese factory in Wisconsin. Since then, women have continued to make award winning cheese in the Badger State.

Four Wisconsin women have become master cheesemakers, which Edge describes as being like a PhD in cheesemaking. The process takes more than 10 years to complete.

To support Wisconsin cheesemakers, look for the “Made in Wisconsin” label when you’re at the grocery store.
