An organic dairy brand claims their product is a result of happy cows

Technology has taken over not just our lives, but also that of animals. We have pets that are micro chipped so they can be tracked if lost; and now we have cows that are fitted with fitbits to monitor their health and deliver milk happily. That is the mission of 23-year-old Mehal Kejriwal, who started the brand Happy Milk. “Cow fitbits are cool as we are able to track their health. The fitbits are provided by Gea — a German based company.”
Happy Milk, an organic dairy brand, is a little over a year old and they have around 400 cows that are free to graze on the farm. “We call our product Happy Milk for we believe and know for sure our cows are happy,” says Mehal. Besides milk, Happy Milk also has mishti doi, curds, paneer and plain curd.
Happy Milk came into being as Mehal “realised the importance of healthy and quality food, especially dairy products. I never drank milk as I hated the smell. But now, with our own brand, I enjoy drinking milk and consume it on a daily basis. How can I sell something that I don’t enjoy? If your milk smells, it means it is not good,” she says.
Mehal adds they have brought in “unique German and Israeli technology onto our farm. We have tied up with people from Israel as they are the dairy gods of the world. Their main focus is on the cows being in the best of health. That is what we have created on our farm too. We avoid grass as fodder as it is believed to be bad for them. It spoils their digestion, and ultimately, the taste of milk too. It has been scientifically proved. Instead, we feed them silage, a fermented fodder. We even grow these crops on our farm.”
The farm has 400 “happy cows” that produce 4,000 litres of milk per day, which is supplied across Bengaluru and is available at super markets and a few milk apps.
“Under refrigeration, the milk can be stored up to four days,” says Mehal who plans to launch her brand of butter and cheese too.
