Amul congratulated Priyanca Radhakrishnan, New Zealand's first Indian-origin minister, with a doodle.

Priyanca Radhakrishnan on Monday created history by becoming New Zealand’s first-ever Indian-origin minister. In Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s new cabinet, Radhakrishnan will be sworn in as the Minister for Diversity, Inclusion and Ethnic Communities as well as the Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector, and Associate Minister for Social Development and Employment.

Radhakrishnan, 41, has been receiving congratulatory messages from India for making the country proud. Leading dairy brand Amul posted a doodle to congratulate Radhakrishnan. The topical shows Radhakrishnan standing with the Amul girl. The text on the graphic reads, “Immigrant achievement! It’s Radha wonderful!”

The post has garnered more than 3,500 likes. Netizens were impressed with the doodle.

One user said, “Whoever writes your advertising copy is a genius. Topical and to the point. Congrats on yet another great ad!” Another wrote, “Ohh @amul_india on point everytime!!!”

Radhakrishnan was born to R Radhakrishnan, an IIT alumnus hailing from Kerala’s Ernakulam district. She did her schooling in Singapore before moving to New Zealand for further education. She started working as a social worker with the Indian community in Auckland. She joined the Labour Party in 2006. In 2017, she was elected as a Member of Parliament and in 2019, was appointed the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister for Ethnic Communities.

The new executive will take oath on Friday, which will be followed by the Cabinet’s first meeting.

Ardern was re-elected as the Prime Minister of New Zealand last month.
